To Buy or Not to Buy – Lilly for Target

Is it worth it?

The short answer is – No, it is definitely not worth it.

Between reviews from Lilly experts that described the lack of quality of the items, and the now incredibly inflated prices (that currently match or exceed her designer goods), you will want to stay clear.

The preliminary review by diehard Lilly aficionado Margaret Abrams on Racked stated that the Target line’s clothing is below par compared to her real line. The clothes were too bright, too much fabric for the print, and not of the same quality, and the bag was ‘every Lilly print ever, vomited’ onto the bag. Yikes. However, considering the low Target prices, this relatively average quality was somewhat rationalize-able.

Either way, at this point the goods are now selling on eBay at the same or higher prices as the real Lilly brand items. Why? Simply because they are ‘rare’ Lilly for Target Pieces. (See price comparisons here).

News flash, these items are not ‘rare’ for any other reason that thousand of people went and gobbled them up so they could profit later, as pictured above. There are 26k Lilly for Target items currently for sale on eBay including chairs going for $1,300 instead of the original $240. If you are going to spend this kind of money on Lilly, you are better off buying her quality pieces in her store.

Don’t get me wrong. I fully support Target’s effort to make designer brands affordable, but in this case, when they are going for such high prices, it just becomes sad to watch.

Target’s spokesman Joshua Thomas called the markups “really disappointing” in an interview Sunday with USA TODAY. We couldn’t agree more. Our advice? Spend your money on some real Lilly (and receive a mystery gift with purchase through April 20th, a much better deal).

We recommend the following in place of eBay –
